Unit 8.2 - Lesson 1 - Introduction

Starter - Name as many graphics packages as you can. Pupils suggest as many as they can think of (yes, including Paint!) - PPT attached has a list of some of the most popular.

Intro - Following PPT, explain that we have a number of graphics packages within school and that for the next few weeks we will be following some basic skills based tutorials.

Main Task 1 - Pupils follow tutorial to experiment with layers - this will probably require a little explanation, tracing paper is usually a good analogy.

Discussion - Use the video embedded in the PPT (also on the VLE) to stimulate a discussion about copyright and Creative Commons (a method of licensing work so that others can use without breaching copyright).

Main Task 2 - Pupils create a folder for images and collect images now to use in further lessons, using the Flickr link which takes you to only CC licensed images. Flickr is moderated but there is a small risk of slightly inappropriate (risque at worst) material.

Extension - Pupils can attempt the 'Layers' task using another graphics application (depending on availability).

Plenary - Four graphics packages freely available from home (NB: Paint is a very deliberate ommission!).

Homework - Copyright multiple choice quiz.
